A European week of actions (10-17 October) against toxic trade deals is underway, illustrating the ever-growing public mobilisation against Trojan Horse treaties such as the EU-US Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP).

EU officials continue to ignore the unprecedented public opposition to the proposed deals, but ongoing TTIP talks are in a dire state, writes Natacha Cingotti, trade campaigner at Friends of the Earth Europe.

The European Commission has today announced its plan for reform of the investor-state dispute settlement mechanism (ISDS), the investor rights part of trade deals including the ongoing TTIP negotiations between the European Union and the United States. 

The main thrust of the proposal is a new Investment Court System which would replace the ISDS mechanism in all on-going and future EU investment negotiations.

The European Parliament committee for international trade failed European citizens and the environment in a crucial vote on a proposed resolution on the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, Friends of the Earth Europe has claimed. The draft resolution – which is to be debated in plenary on 10 June – is the unique opportunity for the European Parliament to give its opinion on the on-going trade talks between the EU and the US.
