Brussels, 22 October - Friends of the Earth Europe hit out today at EU Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson, for blazing ahead with a free trade area in the Mediterranean, even though the European Commission's own research predicts that this will make people in Med countries poorer. Mandelson met with Trade Ministers from Euro Mediterranean countries yesterday in Lisbon to move the free trade deal forward.
Brussels, 2 October 2007 - Hopes of curtailing the rapid growth of greenhouse gas emissions from the aviation sector have been hampered by the European Parliament's environment committee, say environmental groups Transport & Environment, WWF, Friends of the Earth and Climate Action Network.
Brussels, 27 September 2007 - Friends of the Earth Europe has warned that US President George Bush aims to undermine the ongoing UN climate negotiations by hosting a meeting of major greenhouse gas emitters in Washington today and tomorrow. Bush is expected to promote only voluntary targets for cutting emissions, instead of legally binding targets within a Kyoto-based international agreement.
Brussels, 19 September 2007 - Friends of the Earth Europe today accused the European Union of ignoring key warnings about the environmental and social problems of agrofuels - also called biofuels. The environmental group today published a list of recent cautions from prominent organisations and launched an email campaign urging the public to write to their politicians.

4 September 2007, Strasbourg - Current proposals to include aviation in the EU Emissions Trading Scheme will have very little impact on aviation's contribution to climate change, a new report by leading climate scientists warns today.
