Brussels, July 9 – The European Ombudsman has this week (July 7) found the Commission guilty of maladministration for failing to disclose correspondence with carmaker Porsche about CO2 emissions cars following a complaint filed by Friends of the Earth Europe. 
Two years after its introduction the European Commission's lobby register has failed to bring lobbying into the open, the Alliance for Lobbying Transparency and Ethics Regulation in the EU (ALTER-EU) said today. The group used the anniversary of the register to call on the Commission to take urgent steps towards a mandatory, joint register for the European Commission and European Parliament with improved transparency standards.

Brussels, April 22, 2010 - Lobbying in Brussels by Europe's 50 largest companies is happening in secret despite attempts to secure transparency, confirms new research released today by Friends of the Earth Europe.
Based on an analysis of the entries of the 50 largest EU-based companies on the European Commission's lobby register, the report casts light on the weaknesses of the voluntary registration system launched two years ago.
Brussels, 11 March 2010 – Almost two years after the European Commission launched a voluntary lobby transparency register, sixty per cent of EU lobbying consultancies are still not registered, a survey published today by the Alliance for Lobbying Transparency and Ethics Regulation (ALTER-EU) reveals. 
The group has called on EU officials, including the responsible Commissioner Maroš Šefcovic, and MEPs to refuse to meet with groups which have not signed the register. 
Last-minute lobbying by industry has stopped the Hungarian parliament from adopting a climate law in its current term.
Following successful campaigning by Friends of the Earth Hungary's Big Ask campaign, the Hungarian Climate Bill was included on the Parliamentary agenda in mid-February and received support from all parties. But industries afraid of being detrimentally affected by the law have succeeded in blocking it at the last moment.
Brussels, November 5, 2009 - The vast majority of financial 'experts' advising the European Commission represent the banks and investors responsible for the global economic crisis, according to a new report published today by the Alliance for Lobbying Transparency and Ethics Regulation (ALTER EU) .
The Commission must break free from these advisors on financial issues if it is serious about reforming the failed financial system, say the authors.
Brussels/Copenhagen, 2 November - Business attempts to undermine a strong and just global agreement on climate change are being put under the spotlight in the countdown to United Nations negotiations in Copenhagen with a special award, jointly organised by Corporate Europe Observatory, Friends of the Earth International, Focus on the Global South, Attac and Spinwatch.
The Angry Mermaid Award - named after the iconic Copenhagen mermaid who is angry about the destruction being caused by climate change - will be decided by a public vote.
Brussels, October 29 - Friends of the Earth Europe scored a victory over European lobbying when the European Commission admitted that it should not have allowed two senior officials working in the cabinet of former Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson to accept VIP tickets from sportswear giant Nike to watch a rugby match in Paris.
The Commission has agreed to change its rules so that officials will not be allowed to accept such gifts in future. The change in the rules comes after a complaint by Friends of the Earth Europe.
Brussels, 20 July 2009 – Following a complaint by Friends of the Earth Europe, the European Commission has suspended CEFIC from the lobby register for 8 weeks. The lobby registration of CEFIC, the main lobby group of the chemical industry in Brussels, was deemed inaccurate by the Commission. Friends of the Earth Europe calls on the Commission to exclude CEFIC from all further lobby events.
