Brussels/London, 20 October 2008 - African countries will be locked into an economic model based on the export of raw materials that could have a devastating impact on forests and wildlife, if new EU trade deals shaped by former Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson are signed - according to a new report published by Friends of the Earth England, Wales and Northern Ireland today .

Brussels, 23 June 2008 - The voluntary EU lobby register launched today by the Commission is weak and unbalanced, said the Alliance for Lobbying Transparency (ALTER-EU).
"The Commission started off over three years ago with worthy ideas for an EU lobby register, but the end product is proof that commercial lobbyists have excessive influence in Brussels. We sincerely hope the Commission's flawed register will quickly be replaced by a better one that ensures real transparency," said Jorgo Riss of ALTER-EU.
Brussels, 3 June 2008 - The Alliance for Lobbying Transparency and Ethics Regulation in the EU (ALTER-EU) has today written to Commission President Barroso urging him "to intervene and ensure that the Commission's new register for lobbyists will deliver transparency". The appeal by the transparency coalition comes after the Commission's announcement that the long-awaited voluntary register will not include meaningful financial information nor names of lobbyists.

The report sends a strong message to the European Commission by calling for a mandatory register, including lobbyists names, their clients or funders and financial disclosure on registered lobbying activities.
