Brussels, June 23, 2011 – The Alliance for Lobbying Transparency in the EU (ALTER-EU) today welcomed the launch of the "Transparency Register" - the new joint Commission and Parliament register of interest representatives in the EU. However, while the new register will bring a number of improvements , several fundamental flaws remain. It is essential that these should be fixed as soon as possible.

Brussels, May 26, 2011 – The European Commission was sued today, accused of violating European transparency laws. Environmental law organisation ClientEarth, Friends of the Earth Europe (FoEE), FERN and Corporate Europe Observatory (CEO) filed the lawsuit following the Commission's refusal to provide access to information in decisions relating to the sustainability of Europe's biofuels policy. 
As leading industry laggards met at the European Business Summit on 18 May, Friends of the Earth Europe distributed a spoof newspaper, ‘European Noise’. Key business sectors pushing against effective climate action were met with the parody paper produced to raise awareness and engage business and EU leaders towards bold climate action.
Around 10,000 copies were distributed around the European Business Summit, Brussels’ biggest annual lobby forum, and elsewhere.
Brussels, May 18, 2011 - Key business sectors are preventing effective action against climate change, warns Friends of the Earth Europe on the opening day of the European Business Summit in Brussels.
The environmental campaign group singled out prominent EU lobby group and summit organiser, BusinessEurope, for blocking ambitious climate action. BusinessEurope presents itself as the voice of the business community when in fact it favours the most polluting industries and denies there are economic benefits for Europe of early action against climate change. 
Brussels, May 17, 2011 – The European Business Summit is a symbol of the disproportionate influence corporations, particularly lobby group BusinessEurope, have on European policy-making, Friends of the Earth Europe is warning on the eve of the event which opens tomorrow (May 18) in Brussels.
Between October and December 2010 Friends of the Earth Europe filed access to documents requests to ten European Commissioners requesting copies of their calendars and appointments dating back to the beginning of their mandates, early in 2010.
Brussels, April 19 - The European Commission has bowed to legal pressure and has finally fully disclosed letters that were sent by car company Porsche to former Enterprise Commissioner Verheugen in the period 2005-2007. The Commission has illegally withheld these letters for four years. It only decided to disclose them under the threat of court action by Friends of the Earth Europe and environmental lawyers ClientEarth.
The legal stick makes the Commission shift towards transparency
After four years of campaigning, the European Commission finally released uncensored letters between Porsche and the Commission, following the threat of legal action by Friends of the Earth Europe and environmental lawyers ClientEarth. Their release reveals that Porsche tried to convince the Commission that uniform emissions limits on all car manufacturers would threaten their very existence. But it also shows the Commission will only act transparently when litigation looms – a symptom of entrenched secretiveness, obstructing citizens' rights to engage in the legislative process.
