Over 50 groups, including Friends of the Earth Denmark, warned the Greenlandic and Danish governments today that they risk jeopardising the vulnerable arctic environment with their plans to allow uranium mining in the region [1].

Over 11,000 Dubrovnik citizens voted on Sunday, in a local referendum to save the cultural and natural heritage of the UNESCO city of Dubrovnik. 84% voted against plans to build a golf resort on the Srdj plateau above the city. Friends of the Earth Croatia is campaigning against the plan, which has links to alleged corruption and tax evasion, will come at the expense of local citizens, and will permanently damage Dubrovnik's international reputation.

A decision today in Brussels to introduce EU-wide restrictions on neonicotinoid insecticides linked to bee decline is a significant victory for bees and common sense.

The move by the European Commission follows a report by the European Food Safety Authority earlier this year linking three neonicotinoid insecticides to bee decline.

Friends of the Earth England, Wales and Northern Ireland's head of campaigns Andrew Pendleton said: "This decision is a significant victory for common sense and our beleagured bee populations.

Golf resort development threatens Croatian town

A local referendum will take place this weekend to save the cultural and natural heritage of the UNESCO city of Dubrovnik – which is under threat from plans to build a golf resort on the Srdj plateau above the city. Friends of the Earth Bulgaria (Za Zemiata) expressed dismay last week at the Bulgarian government's plans to reduce restrictions on economic development in Pirin national park. Two letters were sent to the Supreme Expert Environmental Council at the Ministry of Environment and Waters.

The Czech parliament is opening the doors of the Czech Republic's most prized national park to logging and development, according to Friends of the Earth Czech Republic. The first steps were taken last week towards enacting new legislation that could bring about the end of Šumava's status as a national park.
